Assam: ULFA-I Chief Paresh Baruah Says Only One Girl From Guwahati Joined The Outfit

GUWAHATI: Two girls from Guwahati went missing on 15 February and since then there were numerous speculations about the girls joining the United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I).

However, following several reports about the duo joining the banned military outfit now the ULFA-I leader Paresh Baruah made it clear that only one girl among the two joined ULFA-I.

On Monday 21 February the ULFA-I chief Baruah claimed that the reports were not completely true as only one girl has joined the military group.

Baruah shared further information saying that he didn't have knowledge about all the new recruits joining the outfit but he got to know about one new girl having the surname Das who had recently joined.

On speaking about the second girl, the ULFA-I chief mentioned that he had no idea about any girl with the surname Deka joining them.

Baruah added that people will keep joining the outfit until and unless its demands are fulfilled. He said that are several reasons for which so many youths prefer to join the outfit.

He further claimed that more than 70% of the youth from the state joined the banned group for the main reason which is their love and affection for their motherland i.e. Assam. On the other hand, there are some youths who joined the outfit because of their family conditions and other related problems.

Notably, on Saturday 19 February, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta the Assam DGP (Director General of Police) claimed that the two missing girls from Guwahati joined the extremist organization ULFA-I and they have recently reached Myanmar as per the input received as of now.

The two girls identified as Rumi Deka and Saraswati Das are residents of Kharguli located in the Uzan Bazar area of Guwahati city.

Reportedly the duo went out of their house last week saying that they had some work to do in a friend's house in Dibrugarh town.
