DHUBRI: Assam has achieved a significant milestone in railway upgradation with the successful trial of an electric locomotive from Golakganj (GKJ) in Dhubri to Fakiragram (FKM) in Kokrajhar on March 19. The trial, done by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) under the Alipurduar Division, is a significant leap towards the improvement of the railway infrastructure of the region.

The electric train finished its journey successfully without facing any problems, proving that the railway line is ready for regular electric train operations. Throughout the trial, rail authorities and specialized technical teams had close observation on the operation in order to strictly comply with severe safety and operational requirements.

This electrification program forms a part of the Indian Railways' vision of improving connectivity in the Northeast by working towards increasing operational efficiency, decreasing travel time and promoting environmentally friendly modes of transport. The shift towards electric trains will increase the comfort of passengers and improve carrying capacity for freight while reducing dependence on conventional fuel sources.

The trial run success is a welcome sign for the region, as it paves the way for the introduction of electric train services that will serve both passenger and freight operations. With the Indian Railways making further investments in modernization, the electrification of Assam's railway lines is set to be an important contributor to the overall development and growth of the Northeast's transport network.
