MAJULI: Two police vehicles parked at Garmur police station in Assam's Majuli were gutted in a fire late last night. The two vehicles, with registration numbers AS306173 and AS307523, were parked just a few meters from the main building when the fire broke out.
Reports state that the fire had spread to three vehicles, and two were fully engulfed when the fire and emergency services acted. Their timely intervention did prevent the situation from spreading beyond that, thereby saving the station from potential damage.
The Garmur police station, one of the most important law-enforcement centers in Majuli, is now at the epicenter of an investigation. Authorities are looking into the fact that preliminary suspicions point to possible foul play by miscreants, but they consider technical faults as the more probable cause of the conflagration.
A senior police official confirmed that an inquiry will be launched to find out the circumstances of the incident and identify the culprits, if any criminal intent is discovered. The official stated, "We are thoroughly examining all angles, from deliberate sabotage to potential mechanical issues."
This has created security concerns in the police station and brought the need for further security surveillance to prevent such incidents in future.
During this investigation process, people of the area are hopeful to get some idea regarding what went wrong that led to such an event, which had shocked everyone about the security aspect in this region.
