LAKHIMPUR: Residents of Borjul-Gohorani village, situated in the Mornoi Gaon Panchayat of the Dhakuakhana sub-division in Lakhimpur district, Assam, have declared their intention to boycott the forthcoming Panchayat elections. This decision arises from ongoing neglect by local authorities regarding the village's infrastructure, which has significantly deteriorated over the years.

On Saturday, villagers organized a protest march, carrying placards that called on the 31 households in the area to refrain from voting. The demonstrators also announced a ban on the entry of political parties into the village for election campaigning, emphasizing their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

The main issue for the villagers is the poor state of the village road, which is vital for transportation and local economic activities. In spite of several appeals made in the last five years, the Gaon Panchayat has allegedly done nothing to rectify these problems. Villagers also complained about the abandoned weather bridge over the Champora Bolahi River, which is a vital connection for the villagers.

In a display of solidarity, the villagers have put up banners along the bridge and at the entrances to the village with a clear message that they will boycott the election unless and until their demands for better infrastructure are fulfilled. The situation reflects the rising discontent among people about local governance and the need for serious attention to their problems.
