GUWAHATI: In a recent development, the CMs SVC (Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell) has arrested four people in relation to the sensational Assam village-headmen appointment scam that happened in the year 2017-18.

On Monday 28 February, the CMs Vigilance cell detained 4 village heads for their alleged involvement in the 2017-18 Assam village-headmen appointment scam in Assam's South Salmara Mankachar District.

The Superintendent of Police in CMs Vigilance cell, Rosie Kalita informed that the four village heads are taken under judicial custody after their two days of interrogation carried out by the special cell.

The arrested gaon buras (village heads) have been identified as Sadaap Ali, Aminul Islam, Abdul Saheed and Mufti Ullah Azad.

The four have been finally arrested on Monday after three years of such illegal activity in appointing candidates as village headmen.

The SP stated that the Vigilance cell has forwarded all four to judicial custody on the basis of the documentary evidence and earlier in relation to the case it has arrested 3 appointing officials.

Kalita further informed that apart from the arrest of these four, a few more village heads will be soon summoned for interrogation in connection with the scam.

Earlier the CMs Vigilance cell has summoned former DC (Deputy Commissioner) of South Salmara Mankachar district Atika Sultana for interrogation over the 2017-18 Assam village-headmen appointment scam.

The former DC Sultana was at the time chairperson of the Gaon Buras appointment committee. As she was ordered to be present in CMs SVC for questioning, Sultana in November last year appeared in front of the cell.

It may be mentioned that the name of South Salmara Mankachar's Additional Deputy Commissioner (DC) Saibur Rahman also came to light following his involvement in the case and it was after this development that Atika Sultana received a summon notice from CMs SVC.

For the unversed, the village head appointment scam is related to the appointment of a total of 94 village heads that included 24 posts in South Salamara and 70 head posts in Mankachar.
