TEZPUR: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Assam State branch in collaboration with IMA Tezpur branch, successfully organized a walkathon under the theme ‘Fit IMA: Fit India,’ aimed at promoting fitness awareness among all sections of society. The event began and concluded at the IMA House in Tezpur, with the route passing through various parts of the town.

Despite rainy weather, over 300 participants enthusiastically took part in the walkathon, with many carrying umbrellas. The event saw impressive participation from IMA members, their spouses, doctors and paramedics from major health institutions across Tezpur, students from Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Tezpur Medical College, and Ascent, along with members from CRU Tezpur, the media, Rotary Club, and Lions Club. Their active involvement played a key role in making the event a resounding success.

The walkathon was flagged off by Ankur Bharali, District Commissioner of Sonitpur, who also participated in the event and addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of Doctors’ Day and encouraging a collective focus on health and wellness.

Earlier, Dr Atul Kumar Kalita, Honorary State Secretary of IMA Assam State Branch, welcomed all attendees, while Dr Rahimuddin Ahmed, Secretary of IMA Tezpur Branch, outlined the route and logistics. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Dwipen Mahanta, President of IMA Tezpur branch, who expressed his gratitude to all participants and supporters. Following the walkathon, a multi-specialty health checkup camp was conducted from 7:30 AM onwards with the theme ‘Are We OK?’ focusing on encouraging regular health monitoring.

Over 120 individuals, including doctors, their families, and media personnel, availed medical investigations and checkups. Services offered at the camp included Complete Blood Count (CBC), Liver Function Test (LFT), Kidney Function Test (KFT), Diabetes Profile (including HbA1c), Electrocardiogram (ECG) and, Cardiology consultations, Liver Fibroscan and Bone Mineral Density tests and orthopedic evaluations, and comprehensive Eye and ENT examinations, including audiometry.

These services were made possible with support from various hospitals and healthcare institutions in Tezpur.

Addressing the participants, Dr Atul Kumar Kalita urged everyone to adopt a health-seeking lifestyle and make regular checkups a habit. Dr Dwipen Mahanta stressed the importance of maintaining good health, particularly among healthcare professionals, while Dr Rahimuddin Ahmed provided an overview of the available medical facilities at the camp.
