Guwahati: A 56-year-old widow was brutally thrashed to death by her own family members in Assam after they suspected that she secretly practised witchcraft.

According to reports, the police have so far detained two persons in connection with this case and the detainees have been identified as Naresh Hembrom (28) and Bajan Hembrom.

The cops are yet to investigate the matter but have said that it seems like a case of witch-hunting.

After the conclusion of the investigative process, it will become cyrstal clear as to whether there was a different motive behind the brutal killing.

Meanwhile, the police have sent the body for post-mortem. Further investigations are underway.

Earlier this year, a man had allegedly murdered an elderly couple suspecting them of practicing witchcraft against his family in a shocking incident that took place in Assam's Baksa district.

The deceased elderly couple had been identified as Sukra Kasua and his wife Balamadina Tirkey, residents of the Baksa district.

As informed by the police, the accused identified as Suraj Ekka had forcibly stormed into the residence of Sukra Kasua and his wife and started accusing the couple of being involved in witchcraft practice and started assaulting them.

The couple kept denying the accusations leveled against them and fiercely protested against the charges, calling them as baseless allegations but Ekka, dissatisfied with all denial, murdered them mercilessly.
