SAMAGURI: The tranquil villages of Samaguri in Assam have been reduced to a turmoil as wild elephants continue to wreak havoc across the region. Villagers in Gendhali, Kuruwabahi and Bharaguri are living in constant fear, as these giant tuskers destroy homes and threaten their livelihoods.
Once admired for their majesty, the elephants have become a destructive force, tearing down houses and properties with alarming ease. The creatures roam freely throughout the entire day, making it nearly impossible for the residents to protect their homes and families.
Despite the growing crisis, the response from local authorities has been insufficient. With only a small team of forest officials available, the magnitude of the situation has overwhelmed them, leaving the villagers to cope with the destruction on their own.
The affected communities are now pleading for immediate action, calling for more resources and effective strategies to mitigate the damage caused by these wild elephants. As the crisis deepens, the people of Samaguri are left fearing for their safety and desperate for urgent solutions to the escalating problem.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, a tragic incident occurred in Rani, near Guwahati, when a wild elephant attacked and killed a 45-year-old man, Prafulla Rabha, on Sunday. The victim, a resident of Belguri village in Rani, was on his way to the paddy fields with his son Bhabesh Rabha when the elephant emerged from the Meghalaya hills and trampled them.
Bhabesh Rabha barely survived the attack and was rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) along with his father. Unfortunately, Prafulla Rabha was declared dead by the doctors.
