Guwahati: The Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that his government can't allow 1000 families to occupy 77, 000 acres of land as eviction drive on encroachment of government land continues.

Taking to his Twitter CM Sarma wrote, "We can't allow 1000 families to grab 77,000 acres of land. Eviction is an ongoing process. #IndiaTodayConclave."

While speaking in 19th edition of the India Today Conclave 2021, Assam CM has claimed that the government has evicted them as they were occupying 77, 000 acres of land.

He however said that the according to the state government policy, one single family can't occupy land more than 2 acres.

"We have to give land to many people. We have to evict people if they encroach upon land. Eviction is a continuous process. Local Assamese people are also being evicted. No communalisation on this", CM said.

Earlier today, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday claimed that his party don't want votes from Miays as they are involved in many activities to distort Assamese culture and the Assamese language. During India Today Conclave 2021, CM Sarma claimed that Muslims who illegally entered in the state are reason behind the loss identity, culture and land of the state. He also said that because the number of immigrant Muslims is increasing, the encroachments taking place in the state.

"Many Assamese people think this way. This process started before Independence. I am carrying this burden of history with me," the chief minister added. "There is no hate narrative in Assam. We evicted them because there is land of 77,000 acres. 1,000 families cannot occupy this land. Our policy is that one family cannot occupy land more than 2 acres. We have to give land to many people. We have to evict people if they encroach upon land. Eviction is a continuous process. Local Assamese people are also being evicted. No communalisation on this," CM Himanta Biswa Sarma during India Today Conclave 2021.
