Assam: Woman Forced To Give Birth Outside Hospital As Doors Were Closed Due To By-Polls

A sub-divisional officer in Gossaingaon had reportedly ordered the main door of the hospital to be closed causing great inconvenience to the patients that were being treated there.

Guwahati: On Saturday, a woman in Gossaingaon was forced to give birth outside the hospital as its doors were ordered to be closed on the occasion of the Assam Assembly By-Election that was held in the constituency. 

According to a police official, the main door of the hospital was ordered to be shut by a sub-divisional officer of the constituency. 

The woman, who had been waiting for more than an hour to be admitted to the hospital, could not hold herself anymore and delivered her child right outside the hospital building.

The woman was finally able to enter the hospital after a few media persons who had arrived at the site forcefully opened the hospital gate and admitted the woman and the baby.

The shutting down of the hospital gate caused great inconvenience to the patients of the hospital that were waiting outside the gate. Several patients even went to the extent of trying to enter the hospital by jumping over the walls.

The Assam Assembly By-Polls was held today in five assembly constituencies of Assam. By 3 pm, Gossaingaon witnessed a poll percentage of 71.11% and the overall poll percentage was 64.30%.
