GUWAHATI: A 50-year-old woman was injured in a leopard attack in the Pandu area in Guwahati

The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday 19 March in the Pandu locality of Guwahati situated near the airport and railway station at Paltan Bazar.

According to reports, the leopard was taking shelter in a railway quarter in Pandu for the past few days and on Tuesday it came out and attacked the local people.

While moving around the area and terrorizing the people the leopard attacked a woman who got seriously injured.

The injured woman has been identified as Manju Bhattacharya, 50 years old, a resident of Pandu in Guwahati city.

later the victim was immediately taken to the GMCH (Guwahati Medical College and Hospital) for medical attention.

It is reported that on Tuesday morning, the leopard was spotted by the people at the Pandu Loco Colony of Maligaon in Guwahati.

The locals informed the Guwahati police who reached the spot with a team and efforts were made to rescue the leopard sitting atop a tree.

The people residing in the area remained inside and locked all doors and windows after they were asked to do so for their safety.

Later the Assam Forest Department officials succeeded in rescuing the leopard after it had created an environment of fear in the area.

The forest department on Tuesday afternoon took to Twitter to inform that the leopard that strayed into the Loco Colony of Guwahati's Pandu has been rescued.

Meanwhile, the concerned officials have transported the leopard to the Assam state zoo in Guwahati for providing treatment.

It may be mentioned that the sighting of leopards in the Maligoan area of Guwahati has become much more common these days as the place is surrounded by hills of dense forest.
