Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma interacted with a distressed elderly woman in Kokrajhar on Sunday who briefed him of her pitiful state to which the CM instructed the DC & SP to resolve her pending matters and that she receives the Orunodoi scheme of his Government.

KOKRAJHAR: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday had an interaction with an elderly woman who was distressed over a land dispute.

In a video shared by CM Sarma on his Twitter handle, the elderly woman could be seen interacting with the CM and briefing him of her pathetic condition. Thereafter, the Assam CM directed the DC and SP of Kokrajhar district to resolve the matter at the earliest so that the lady gets a home of her own.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was in Kokrajhar's Chandrapara on Sunday to attend a party event of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL).

"God's grace to be able to serve! Advised DC and SP of Kokrajhar to address issues faced by the revered old lady," tweeted CM Sarma after the interaction.

In the video, the woman could be heard mentioning that she was receiving an amount of Rs. 250 as monthly pension. On this, the Assam Chief Minister assured her that she will be receiving Rs. 1250 from the month of February next year.

Further, the CM could be heard instructing the Kokrajhar DC to get her enrolled under the Orunodoi scheme of the Assam Government.

CM Sarma further said, "If you don't get Orunodoi pension by Kokrajhar, meet me the next time I am in Kokrajhar."

The video on CM Sarma's Twitter handle has gone viral after its upload with many lauding him for his kind gesture.

It may be mentioned here that the Assam Government's Orunodoi scheme was laid out in 2020 and has so far benefitted more than nineteen lakh people till date as per the Government's Finance Department.

The scheme prioritises on empowering women economically besides uplifting the poor from the BPL category in line with the Government's goal towards achieving the sustainable development goals as laid out by the United Nations.
