NAGAON: One married woman identified as Sumurmoni Garh (30), wife of Raju Garh was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants at Gangadisha area under Doboka forest range in Hojai district on Friday night. Sources claimed that the woman was sleeping in her house while the herd of wild jumbos coming in search of food from nearby Doboka reserve forest attacked on her. Subsequently, she was admitted at a local hospital in a very critical condition where she finally succumbed to her injury, sources said, adding that her earthly remains were sent to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital for postmortem.

Meanwhile, police as well as local forest officials rushed to the spot and made all arrangements to send back the herd towards the jungle. For several weeks, a herd of wild elephants terrorised the villagers of Doboka, Kothiatoli, and Kampur.
