NAGAON: The recovery of the dead body of the woman triggered sharp sensations in the Nagaon district of the state. While the husband’s family claimed that it was an incident of suicide, her own family alleged foul play on the side of the husband’s family.

The incident came to light in the Sonarigaon village of the Nagaon district of the state. The dead body of one Ajima Khatun was recovered from her husband’s home. Ajima Khatun who was the the daughter of Akash Ali of the Puthimari village had married Baharul Islam son of Rahim Uddin of the Sonarigaon village about a year back.

Ajima Khatun’s family alleged that Baharul Islam had started to torture her soon after her marriage adding that they had she was subjected to both physical and mental torture from the family with the demands for dowry from the new bride and her family. They also mentioned that as the torture grew more and more difficult for her to handle, her father was forced to sell the property and had over a sum of Rs 2 lakhs to the family of Baharul Islam. But instead of bringing any respite, this development triggered even more torture to the victim.

In the light of such development, Ajima Khatun was found dead hanging from a window frame of their bedroom. The husband's family said that it was a case of suicide while her own family alleged that it was a case of a planned murder. Following the incident, Ajima Khatun’s family filed an FIR against Baharul Islam, Husnara Khatun, Khairul Islam, Razia Khatun and Nargis Sultana in connection with this incident. It was alleged that several injury marks were spotted in the deceased’s body which led to the family believing that she was beaten with a stick.

Dhing police arrived at the location and sent the body to Nagaon’s Bhogeshwari Phukani Civil Hospital for the post-mortem procedures. The family members also appealed to the chief minister seeking justice for the death.
