JAMUGURIHAT: A one-day workshop on prohibition of child marriage was held recently in Biswanath College with an aim to create awareness about the ill practice of Child Marriage in the present society, stated a press release issued by the co-ordinator of IQAC, Biswanath College. The workshop was organized by Extension Centre SIPRD, Biswanath Chariali in collaboration with IQAC, Biswanath College. Inaugurating the workshop, Dr. Chinta Mani Sharma, the Principal of the college expressed his concern about the impact of child marriage in the overall development of children. The workshop witnessed the presence of Ritamoni Burhagohain, Principal ETC SIPRD Biswanath Chariali, Prastuti Bhuyan, legal and probation officer of Social welfare department, Biswanath chariali, Preeti Phukan Sharma, lecturer of TCBM Jr. College and Nabonita Hazarika, Psychologist of Biswanath Civil Hospital as the distinguished resource persons.

Prastuti Bhuyan, legal and probation officer of Social welfare department, in her speech made a detailed elaboration about legal provisions against child marriage under the lens of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. Addressing the students, Preeti Phukan Sharma, lecturer of TCBM Jr. College appealed to the students to make the best use of time for blossoming their talent. If they adhere to their dreams, they will be able to turn their minds away from marriage at a tender age. Sharma encouraged the students to develop their career to be self-reliant.
