ORANG: Joining the rest of the state and the global community, Udalguri district on Friday marked the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week with a dedicated awareness programme held at the Udalguri Civil Hospital. The event was organized by the District Health Society under the leadership of hospital superintendent Dr. Jiten Kumar Saharia, who officially inaugurated the weeklong campaign.
Celebrated under the theme “Enable Breastfeeding, Make a Healthier Future”, the programme aimed to emphasize the vital role of breastfeeding in ensuring a child’s long-term health and well-being.
Prominent attendees at the inaugural event included Dr. N. Binoy Singh, Dr. B.K. Sharma, District Programme Manager of the National Health Mission Bachil Toppo and health officials such as Madhusmita Baishya, Sanjeev Kujur, Kandarp Kalita, Muktamala Phukan, Onjay Daimari, and Chumki Daimari. Also present were staff nurses, ASHA workers, expectant mothers, and young mothers from the area.
The week will focus on raising public awareness about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant’s life and continued breastfeeding alongside complementary foods up to two years of age.
