
GUWAHATI: Mina Mahanta, a prominent writer, leading cultural worker and social worker, received the Labanya Hazarika Adarsha Matri Award for 2023 organized by the Writers' Association of Assam. “Nature is a manifestation of God and mother is the human form of nature,” she said while receiving the award. She added that mothers are the basis of development and progress not only of children but also of society, country and nation. She said that the award is a recognition of her mother's love and affection.
The awards ceremony was conducted by Mridula Sharma, President of the Writers' Association, Assam and officially inaugurated by Ratiprabha Gogoi, a prominent educationist and writer.
The event started with the lightening of diya, tributes being paid and a Borgeet performance by Nibha Sharma. Dr. Amarjyoti Chowdhury, renowned educationist, writer and reciter as the chief guest of the event spoke about the life and lifestyle of Adarsh Matri award winner Mina Mahanta. He stated that mothers are always a source of inspiration and that mothers shape our society.
Padmashri Dr Surjyakanta Hazarika, who was the chief guest on behalf of the donor family, spoke briefly about the award that had been constituted in memory of his mother Late Labanya Hazarika. He also spoke about the work of the awardee.
The event was attended by Mrinalni Devi, former Vice-President of Assam Sahitya Sabha and an ideal mother herself who participated as the chief guest. She officially released a book of poems titled "Jeevan Ek Suriya Gaan" written by Ranju Phukan on the occasion. She spoke about the role of a mother in shaping the life and character of her children.
The event was attended by the Treasurer of the Writers' Association, Assam, Juri Barua, educationist and writer Diptimoy Buragohain Gogoi, Principal and essayist of Gargaon College, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Executive President of Writers' Association, Assam, General Secretary of Writers' Association, Assam many other dignitaries.
