TEZPUR: In order to emphasize the role of engineering for developing technologies for a sustainable future of Northeast region (NER), Tezpur University in collaboration with Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) organized a two-day symposium. INAE, is an apex body under Department of Science and Technology, Government of India comprises of distinguished engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists covering the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines. The symposium particularly focuses on young women engineers (less than 45 years of age) from engineering and technical institutions/universities covering all the states of Northeast region. A total of thirty-two young women engineers from different parts of NER participated in the event.

Inaugurating the event as the chief guest, Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University said that the two-day deliberations by the domain-specific expert scientists would result in providing knowledge on emerging and advanced technologies. Lauding the organizers for the initiative, Prof. Singh remarked that India is striving towards bringing gender equity and contribution of women in science and technology has become a necessity for progress of the nation.

Elaborating the objective of the symposium, Dr. Sharmila Mande, Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (FNAE) and Coordinator, INAE said that a total of eight distinguished scientists / experts will deliberate on different topics covering two themes, ‘High-value Agri-based products’ and ‘Rejuvenation of natural resources’ in the next two days. “The symposium provides a dynamic platform for young women engineers to engage in discussions, share insights, and explore innovative solutions to address the unique challenges faced by the Northeastern region in the context of sustainable development”, Prof. Mande said. The invited speakers were Prof. Rekha S. Singhal, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, Dr. Ng Iboyaima Singh, Central Agricultural University, Imphal and others.
