KAZIRANGA: The International Tourism Mart's (ITM) 12th edition kicked off on Tuesday in Kaziranga, Assam, and will conclude on Friday. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organises this yearly event with the goal of showcasing the North Eastern region's tourism potential to both domestic and foreign audiences.
In order to promote cooperation between tourism enterprises and entrepreneurs from the eight North Eastern states—Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim—the ITM is an essential platform.
To support the area's tourism sector, the event brings together buyers, vendors, the media, governmental organisations, and other interested parties.
Zubeen Garg, the popular singer from Assam, is attending the fair and is a guest. The location for this important event is Kaziranga, which is well-known for its abundant biodiversity, which includes the one-horned rhino.
About 400 people are anticipated to attend the event, including domestic and international tour operators, hoteliers, homestay owners, tourist service providers, influencers, and government representatives, according to Mugdha Sinha, DG of tourist.
A range of events, including presentations, business-to-business meetings, panel discussions, food demonstrations, cultural evenings, live music, and a North East Bazaar, will be held over the three-day event.
Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to tour important locations such as the Orchid and Biodiversity Park, Hathikuli Tea Estate, Kaziranga National Park, and Charaideo Moidam.
In keeping with the Ministry of Tourism's Travel for Life campaign, Sinha underlined that the theme of this edition of ITM will be sustainability. Energy-efficient procedures and the ban on single-use plastics will reduce the event's negative environmental effects.
To ensure that the event balances tourism with the environment and leaves a positive legacy for the area, dedicated shuttle services will be offered to lessen the carbon footprint.
