Assamese community in Singapore celebrates Rongali Bihu with a day-long programme

MANGALDAI: All the Assamese people living in Singapore with tremendous enthusiasm, funfare and gaiety, celebrated Rongali Bihu with a day-long programme recently. Assam Association, Singapore, bringing all the Assamese community living in Singapore under one umbrella, organized the festival in a jam-packed auditorium at 2, Bukit Batok, West Ave 7 in the heart of Singapore city.

After a month-long preparation of rehearsals, practices and planning, the final day showed its success with a long but tight list of cultural programmes, including drama, songs, dance and of course Bihu dance. Bollywood choreographer Sabnam Laskar enthralled the audience with a Bihu dance. Around 20 beautiful Assamese girls took part in the fashion show depicting various Assamese costumes. Group Bihu songs were performed by Assamese people living in Singapore.

Arindam Mani Das, originally from Kalaigaon in Udalguri district, added more colour to the festivity with the melodious presentation of an immortal song of Jayanta Hazarika. The event was inaugurated with Jatiya Sangeet O’ Mor Aponar Desh. President of Assam Association, Singapore, Dilip Borthakur in his inaugural speech wished all the members of the Assamese community living in Singapore. General secretary of the association, Sohel Arnool said that Assam Association, Singapore had improved a lot in terms of quality of the event and in terms of number of people who participate in the event. More than 300 Assamese people are currently living in Singapore. Delicious food was served to everyone present in the celebration.
