GUWAHATI: The inaugural Belghoria Film Festival concluded on a high note, showcasing an excellent set of films that impressed viewers. Assamese director Namrata Datta won the Best Director award for her documentary "Lakshahira," which also bagged the Best Cinematography award, which was shared by Ratul Barman and Utpal Datta.

"Lakshahira" is a moving tribute to Lakshahira Das, a popular teacher and singer who died at 95. The film interweaves her life stories and her contributions to education and culture to earn universal appreciation in Assam, with the state government and schools holding special shows.

The festival showcased a variety of short films and documentaries that delved into themes such as identity, childhood, spirituality, and social change. It successfully offered a platform for independent filmmakers and earned national recognition for its commitment to diverse cinematic expressions.

Other dignitaries present were Anjan Bose, Rajdeep Paul, and Sharmistha Maity, who provided inspiring insight and encouragement to the festival. The distinguished panel of judges comprised Joydeep Bose, Olivia Das, Jayashree Bhattacharya, and Tutul Pal, who selected the films on both technical proficiency as well as emotional impact.

Apart from this, the festival also screened Rahul Biswas' "Astaraag," which was appreciated for its narrative value and beautiful frames. The acclaim for "Lakshahira" speaks of the festival's commitment towards appreciating worthy stories in regional and independent cinema.
