Guwahati- Legendary Bihu singer Bhitali Das' last rites were performed at Nabaragha crematorium in Guwahati. The singer who died on Wednesday after fighting COVID had sung over 5000 Bihu songs.
She produced multiple hit songs like 'Junbai dekhote xajim ghar akhoni', 'Torae jolabo saki', 'Junbai ai beji ati diya buli', 'Kinu Sawonire sala muk oi deha xir xirai gol moina jan oi', 'Nodi barhile oi', 'Ujan uthile oi,' and 'Hate nu meli meli a jaanmoni aha nu kaxe sapi.' A few of her popular albums are Jaanmoni, Joonbai, Rangdhali, Rohedoi, Bogitora, Enajori, among many others.
In the course of her 20 years long career, she had sung over 5000 Bihu songs, leaving no stone unturned to entertain her beloved Assamese audience.
In her career, she had sung along with many other artists including Assam's heartthrob Zubeen Garg.
Zubeen Garg offered his deepest condolences on her demise by saying, "Thousands of songs, lakhs of stories, uncountable memories we shared together. She was one of the strongest co-singers I've ever worked with. I will miss you, Vitali."
Popular singer from Assam Zublee Baruah said, "I pain so deep can't be expressed in words. We lost you too soon. Our unparallel bihurani (queen of Bihu), the Golden voiced Jaanmoni. Be happy wherever you are dear."
One of her heartbroken fan Gunikhan Sonowal tweeted, "Our Bihu was never complete without Zubeen da and Vitali."
She is survived by her husband and daughter.
Her last performance was at the Judges Field during a Bihu program organized by the All Guwahati Students' Union on April 14.
The mortal remains of the legendary singer will be handed over to her family which will be taken to her Geetanagar house where people will pay tribute before taking it to Nabagraha crematorium where her last rites will be performed with COVID-19 protocols.
