GUWAHATI: Assam has unlocked a major milestone in its power sector as the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has ranked second in the recent national DISCOM rankings, behind only Andhra Pradesh. The achievement was announced by the Ministry of Power, which ranks power distribution companies in India on several key parameters.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma exuded immense pride in this significant accomplishment on the micro-blogging site X, stating, “Assam powers up the charts! In the latest national DISCOM rankings, APDCL surges ahead. We will continue to work hard to build a world-class power distribution company that keeps consumers at the core.”

The annual rankings assess DISCOMs on multiple factors such as financial sustainability, performance excellence and adaptability to changing environments. APDCL's commendable performance included a 10th place in Consumer Service Rating (CSDR), an 8th position in the 13th Integrated Ratings Report among state utilities and a 4th place in the State Utility Rankings. These results collectively contributed to its impressive overall national ranking.

Such acknowledgment identifies APDCL's initiative in reducing transmission losses and improving customers' satisfaction, demonstrating Assam's determination to go for modernizing its power infrastructure. Such improved ranking by the state indicates continuous efforts towards financially viable operations and stable power supply to urban as well as rural consumers.
