Guwahati 24 September: Eminent business leader, entrepreneur and philanthropist of Assam, G D Dhanuka has been conferred the "Visionary Leader in Assam and North East" for the year 2020 by TIMES Group today. The award was announced under the TIMES Stellar Brands and Icons Awards for Assam and North East.

G D Dhanuka hails from the legendary business family of Dhanukas from Assam. But GD Dhanuka transformed his family business and made it more in sync with the current times and trends. He diversified and expanded into areas such as green energy, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics business. Today GRD Pharmaceuticals is one of the fastest growing pharma and cosmetics companies of Northeast India. A local entrepreneur with a global vision.

He is credited to have introduced the first alcohol based handrub – Handuser-C, produced from the northeastern region and he did it way back in 2012. Needless to say, when COVID-19 outbreak happened, GRD Pharmaceuticals was leading from the front in providing with hand sanitisers in keeping with WHO specifications. Clearly, not just a businessman par excellence but an entrepreneur who thinks ahead of his times and out of the box.

GD Dhanuka is from Assam but his thinking, his vision and his business acumen is at par with any global business leader.

Dhanuka has another side to him. He is a philanthropist. His philanthropic initiatives include providing free ayurvedic treatment and medicines, providing free education for underprivileged girls, being a Danveer Member (Marwari Hospitals), providing shelters for animals (Shree Gauhati Gaushala). Dhanuka is also the founder member of the EO (Entrepreneurs Organisation)

He believes "India's Social and Economic Empowerment is not a one-time event, but a journey in itself" and is considered to be an epitome of the "Think Global, Act Local" ideology.

He was the only industrialist from North East India to be invited as a panel speaker in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Forum at the Global Investors Summit, "Advantage Assam".
