GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has highlighted the extraordinary economic growth of the state and revealed that the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of the state had jumped by a significant percentage. Poverty rates have declined too. Taking to his official X handle, Sarma declared that Assam's GSDP, which had stood at ₹1.77 lakh crore in 2013-14, would touch ₹6.43 lakh crore by 2024-25.

Praising the state's financial discipline, the Chief Minister pointed out that Assam's debt-to-GDP ratio, which remains below the national average, is proof of good fiscal management and sustainable development.

Apart from sound economic growth, there has been a sharp decrease in poverty. Apart from strong economic growth, Assam has also experienced a sharp decline in poverty; the poverty headcount ratio has declined from 36.97% to 14.47%. The progress made in this area also underlines the focus of the government on holistic development across sectors.

The nominal economic growth rate of the state for the period 2022-23 is as high as 19.9% against the national average of 16.1%. With a projected GSDP of ₹5.70 lakh crore, it would touch ₹1,35,787 per capita income by 2023-24.

The Assam budgetary expenditure for 2022-23 stands at ₹1.27 lakh crore with capital expenditure of ₹16,338 crore. It also undertakes externally aided projects of ₹58,064 crore that enhance its infrastructure and development scope.

Earlier this year, CM Sarma had expressed his optimism over the future of Assam and vowed to work towards a "Viksit Assam" and also towards better governance to continue the momentum of growth in the state.
