
NEW DELHI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to review the state’s highway projects. Their discussion focused on both ongoing developments and future plans to improve road infrastructure.
The meeting took place ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, where Gadkari is expected to highlight Assam’s role in enhancing connectivity between India and ASEAN nations.
The Chief Minister emphasized Assam’s commitment to investing Rs. 1 lakh crore in building a modern road network. This investment aims to boost internal infrastructure, support economic development, and position Assam as a key trade and transit hub in South and Southeast Asia. Improved connectivity is seen as crucial for strengthening business opportunities and regional integration.
CM Sarma later shared details of the meeting on social media, reaffirming Assam’s efforts to develop world-class roads. He also mentioned that Gadkari would outline the central government’s vision for Assam’s infrastructure at the summit.
In addition to meeting Gadkari, the Chief Minister also held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has confirmed her participation in the summit’s valedictory session, underscoring the Centre’s support for Assam’s development initiatives.
