
SIVASAGAR: Sivasagar, Assam’s historic town known for its rich Ahom heritage, has been selected under the ‘Challenge-Based Destination Development’ initiative of the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme by the Ministry of Tourism. It is among 42 destinations chosen nationwide under the ‘Eco-Tourism & Amrit Dharohar Site’ category.
Taking to his official handle X, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, "Sivasagar has been selected by @tourismgoi under Challenge Based Destination Development of Swadesh Darshan as one of the 42 destinations in India under Eco Tourism & Amrit Dharohar Site category, which will greatly boost tourism in this historic town."
This selection is expected to significantly enhance tourism in Sivasagar, bringing infrastructural improvements while preserving its cultural and ecological heritage. With its iconic monuments like the Shiva Dol and Rang Ghar, Sivasagar is set to gain national and global recognition as a prime eco-tourism destination.
Meanwhile, tea tourism in Assam's Lepetkata is set to create significant opportunities for local entrepreneurship and employment, especially benefiting the tea community and nearby areas.
Spearheaded by Luxmi Tea Company, known for its focus on worker welfare and community development, this initiative aims to integrate tourism with the local economy and culture. The project seeks to uplift the community while preserving its rich heritage.
