PRAYAGRAJ: Star sprinter Hima Das, the 'Dhing Express', made a notable visit to the Maha Kumbh where she took a dip in the Holy Ganga, her spiritual guru Keshav Das Ji Maharaj confirmed. Hima is getting ready for the new athletic season, which she will be joining after a 16-month suspension because of whereabouts failure related to doping regulations.
The gold medal winner of the 2018 Asian Games from Dhing, Assam, visited the Maha Kumbh along with friends after taking blessings from Maharaj connected with the Nirmohi Akhara. Maharaj said that Hima had shown keen interest in visiting the Northeast camp at the Kumbh and was very excited about the experience. In this visit, she was excited to see Naamghar-the traditional Assamese prayer hall featuring a 'Manikut', which is a 'Kirtan Ghar', and 'Rangali Suha'- the entrance gate.
Hima Das was suspended from July 22, 2023, to November 21, 2024, after she failed to report for mandatory out-of-competition doping tests. She became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at an international event when she won the 400m final at the World Under-20 Championships in 2018. Other than her sporting career, Hima also served as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Assam Police and did very well both in her sporting career and the law enforcement sector.
