Assam’s Survivor in Odisha Train Accident Returns Home

BISWANATH: One of the survivors of the massive train accident in Odisha belonged to Assam and he finally arrived at his home on the night of Wednesday after receiving the necessary medical treatment. He received his initial medical treatment in Odisha itself, followed by proper treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

On June 2 three trains were involved in an accident in Odisha’s Balasore. While two trains had a large number of passengers onboard, one was a goods train. The 12841 Shalimar - MGR Chennai Central Coromandel Express was travelling at very high speeds and faced the worst damages. Nearly 300 people perished in this accident and over 900 were injured.

Rupak Das from Assam was one of the injured survivors of the accident. He received injuries due to the accident and was shifted to a medical facility in Odisha after the accident. And finally returned home on Wednesday. The family members as well as the people of his village gathered in large numbers to welcome him back home. He had reached Guwahati on Monday, and was kept in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for proper care till Wednesday.

Rupak Das, a survivor of the Odisha train crash, was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced health care after sustaining injuries on June 2. Keshab Mahanta, the Health Minister for Assam, visited the GMCH on Wednesday to check on the youth's health and wish him a quick recovery. Rupak is from Biswanath Chariali and was brought to Guwahati on Monday.
