Assam's PWD Junior Engineer Held For Taking Bribe
The person who caught red handed has been identified as Bijoy Das is working in PWD department of Rangia Sib-division had demanded Rs 20000 for setting up a petrol pump.
Guwahati: The Director of Vigilance and Anti-corruption of Assam on Friday apprehended a junior engineer while allegedly taking bride of Rs 10, 000 in Dispur of Guwahati.
The person who caught red handed has been identified as Bijoy Das who is working in PWD department of Rangia Sib-division.
Sources said that based on an input the personnel of Director of Vigilance and Anti-corruption laid a trap and caught his red handed.
He reportedly had demanded bribe of Rs20000 from a person for issuing NOC (no objection certificate) to him for setting up a petrol pump in Kamrup district.
A case has been registered in Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station vide ACB PS case No. 12/2021 U/S 7(a)/13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act against him.
The accused person has been brought to the ACB Police Station for further action as per law.
"On the basis of a complaint alleging demand of bribe, a trap was laid by a team of Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption in Dispur area of Guwahati. At around 5 pm, one Bijoy Das, junior engineer, PWD (Buildings) of Rangia Subdivision was caught red handed in front of PWD (Building) office at Ganesh Mandir by the team while he was accepting bribe of Rs10000from the complainant," an official statement of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption said here.
Earlier, Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested Thelamara (Sonitpur district) Circle Officer Barenya Ranjan Barthakur for his alleged involvement in the incident of bribery on September 27, 2021. The Vigilance sleuths had arrested Mandal, Gulzar Hussain, on September 27. Interrogation of accused Gulzar Hussain revealed that he had demanded the bribe following instruction from Circle Officer Barenya Ranjan Barthakur.
