Athani police busted two illegal saw mills, logs seized

DHUBRI: Acting on input, officer in-charge of Athani police outpost raided Piyajbari part II and busted two illegal saw mills and recovered a large number of logs of non-Sal timber on Sunday. The police also apprehended a timber smuggler, Ashur Uddin of Salmara part V village under Fakirganj police station of South Salmara-Mancachar district, suspected to be the owner of the mills, a police source said.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dhubri Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Trinayan Bhuyan said that the police later informed forest officials and subsequently the timber logs and illegal saw mills were seized by them. The accused was also taken into custody by forest staff, Bhuyan further added.
