Attack on journalist condemned in Kalaigaon

TANGLA: Condemning the attack on media persons and demanding protection for them, members of Kalaigaon Press Club BTR Journalist Association, Bartajibi Sangha along with members of civic society groups covered their mouth with black clothes and staged a demonstration in Kalaigaon town of Udalguri district on Tuesday in protest of the broad daylight brutal attack on a journalist, Jayanta Debnath in Basugaon of Chirang on Monday. Debnath was attacked by police personnel and severely injured after the former questioned them for not wearing helmets.

Meanwhile, President and Secretary of Tangla Media Circle, Deepak Deka and Shajid Khan said,"The attack on a journalist is an assault on freedom of expression enshrined in the Constitution and strict disciplinary action as per the due procedure of law must be adopted in this regard by the authorities. "The media bodies also urged Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to take action against the culprits and provide immediate medical attention and compensation to the victim journalist.
