LAKHIMPUR: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Lakhimpur branch committee of Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (ATTSA) initiated stir demanding resolution of various problems.

The activists of the organization, led by Lakhimpur branch committee president Gopal Tasa and secretary Babul Gowala, staged a two-hour long dharna at Koylamari Tea Estate in front of the manager's office. By staging the protest programme, the organization demanded to increase the daily wage of tea garden workers up to Rs. 351.

Taking part in the programme, ATTSA central committee vice-president Arup Boraik and other leaders came down heavily against the State Government regarding the long-pending issues of the tea tribes. By staging the same protest, the organization also demanded payment of weekly wage on Sunday, to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the tea tribes, to distribute land patta, to ensure employment to the unemployed youths, to resolve the burning problems of tea gardens permanently, to enforce PLA Act and to establish higher secondary schools in the tea tribe areas. The organization asked the government to resolve the fundamental problems of the community instead of paying Rs 2500 as a 'bait'.
