SIVASAGAR: In an effort to promote inclusive development and raise awareness about government welfare schemes among tribal communities, the Sivasagar district administration recently conducted a series of public outreach and health initiatives under the Central Government’s flagship programme ‘Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan – Awareness and Benefit Saturation Camp.’ The campaign, held in memory of tribal Freedom Fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda, was carried out across multiple Gaon panchayats in the district from June 23 to June 27.

The campaign was implemented across the development blocks of Demow, Gaurisagar, Sivasagar, and Nazira, where large-scale public engagement was ensured through collaboration among various government departments. The programme aimed to spread awareness and facilitate access to a range of welfare schemes specifically designed to benefit the tribal and marginalized populations.

A wide array of government departments participated actively in the campaign, setting up information desks, service counters, and help booths at designated venues. The departments focused on educating the public, especially tribal communities, on the benefits and application procedures of centrally sponsored schemes. Key schemes highlighted during the campaign included PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, MGNREGA, Aadhaar Enrollment and Update Services, etc. As part of the campaign’s healthcare component, the district health department organized special medical camps focused on screening for sickle cell anaemia, a genetic disorder prevalent among tribal populations. These health camps offered free diagnostic services, counselling, and awareness about prevention and management of the disease.

In addition to spreading awareness, the campaign also provided on-the-spot services such as registration for welfare schemes, issue and correction of Aadhaar cards, opening of Jan-Dhan accounts, and addressing public queries and grievances.

The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from local residents, with a notable turnout of tribal community members. Panchayat-level outreach ensured that information reached even the most remote households. Volunteers and local officials facilitated the smooth conduct of the camps and guided people through registration and application processes.

Samiran Bora, District Development Commissioner, Sivasagar, remarked that such campaigns not only brought government schemes closer to the people but also strengthened the trust between the administration and the community.
