Awareness drive-cum-rally on COVID-19 held in Mangaldai district

MANGALDAI: Office bearers and members of Mangaldai Electronic Media Forum (MEMF) in view of the alarming prevailing situation arising out of COVID-19 and non following of the COVID protocol by the common people, in a praiseworthy initiative organized a day-long massive awareness drive cum rally in Mangaldai-the district headquarters town on Sunday. Significantly, the media persons particularly the members of media fraternity in electronic media in the district has been playing a very positive role in creating awareness on maintenance of the COVID protocol here in the district since the clamping of the lockdown. On Sunday, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah and Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan took part in the awareness drive on the bank of Borpukhuiri in presence of the mediapersons and a large number of gathering maintaining the COVID protocol.

"The district administration is grateful to the members of the fourth estate for their positive role played since the imposition of the countrywide lockdown. As a part of the frontline COVID warriors the mediapersons keeping up their responsibility towards the society at this hour of crisis has again come out to the street with the noble intention to create awareness which, no doubt, is the need of the hour and the district administration will always extend all help and cooperation in this regard," said Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah while addressing the awareness drive and also warned to the violators of the COVID protocol of stern legal action.

Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan taking part in the awareness drive has also appreciated the initiative of MEMF and said that such a move would surely help the police in carrying out their responsibility towards the society. "The State government has already requested the people of the State to wear masks, sanitize their hands and to maintain the social distance. It is not only the duty of the police alone; members of the civil society must follow this appeal in containing the dreaded COVID-19. Failure on the part of the members of the civil society to follow this appeal will definitely compel the police to take up stringent action on the violators," underlined Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan.

Media person Bhargab Kumar Das, Officer in Charge of Mangaldai Police Station Inspector Dina Bandhu Bhuyan, AJYCP activist Bhabesh Kakati, AASU activist Niranjan Saikia, President of Mangaldai Press Club Abdul Khalek and COVID winner media person Ganesh Dutta also addressed the inaugural function of the awareness drive while singer of repute Rinti Moni Deka enthralled the audience with a melodious song of Bhupen Hazarika. Earlier President Hemanta Kumar Barua and Secretary Mukut Raj Sarma of MEMF in their welcome speech explained the objective of the awareness drive and sought all cooperation from all section of the society. All the participating mediapersons covered all the major thoroughfares of the town and offered the masks to the pedestrians who were moving without wearing masks.
