Awareness meet on cancer in Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: Minoti Borthakur, the cancer crusader in Assam, for the last three decades, was in Doomdooma as a part of her mission to create awareness about how to overcome this dreaded disease and live a happy life. She addressed a series of meetings since June 24 last beginning with an awareness meeting on physical and mental health at Padma Nath Gohain Baruah Government Model (PNGBGM) College, Kakapather.

In the meeting held under the presidentship of Principal Dr Thanu Ram Majinder, Minoti Borthakur, former Head of Philosophy, Cotton College (now Cotton University) and motivational speaker on cancer, narrated before the students how a person having a good health could accomplish miracles with the help of self- confidence and will-power.

Her second such meeting was held at Doomdooma Marwari Panchayati Bhaban and the third and the fourth one were organised by Lion's Club of Doomdooma Tea City and Akal Vidyalaya, Rupaisiding respectively. On the same day evening, another awareness meeting was held jointly by Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSXX) and Ramdhenu Mahila Chora, Doomdooma at DSXX Bhaban premises. The meeting was jointly presided over by Bimala Baruah, President, DSXX and Dibyalata Deka, President, Ramdhenu Mahila Chora (RMC), Doomdooma. Dhiren Deka, senior journalist and a life Member of DSXX, introduced Minoti Borthakur before the gathering.

In her brief speech, Dibyalata Deka, President, RMC told how a cancer patient of Doomdooma was greatly inspired by Borthakur while she was under treatment at B Barooah Cancer Hospital, Guwahati a few years back.
