GOLAGHAT: An awareness meeting on the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) was held at the public auditorium in Jonaki Nagar, Golaghat on Wednesday. The meeting was organized by the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Assam, in collaboration with the Golaghat District Administration.
The meeting was attended by over 2,000 people, including beneficiaries, fair price shop owners, and village Panchayat cooperative society members. The main objective of the meeting was to create awareness about the PMGKAY scheme and its benefits.
The meeting was addressed by several dignitaries, including the Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Government of Assam, Kaushik Rai, and the Finance Minister, Government of Assam, Ajanta Neog. The MLAs of Sarupathar and Bokakhat constituencies, Biswajit Phukan and Jiten Gogoi respectively, were also present.
The speakers highlighted the importance of the PMGKAY scheme in ensuring food security for the poor and marginalized sections of society. They also emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the distribution of food grains under the scheme.
The meeting also saw the felicitation of 10 fair price shop owners who were recognized for their outstanding performance in distributing food grains to the beneficiaries. The ceremony was attended by senior officials of the district administration and the department.
The PMGKAY scheme aims to provide free food grains to over 2.5 lakh ration card holders in Golaghat district. The scheme is expected to benefit millions of people in the state and is a significant step towards ensuring food security for the poor and vulnerable sections of society.
