Awareness meetings held observing the week-long Menstrual Hygiene Week by Assam Branch Indian Tea Association in Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: As a part of the observance of the week-long Menstrual Hygiene Week from May 21 to May 28, Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA) and UNICEF organized awareness meetings in each of the tea estates under ABITA Zone 1 circle. Accordingly, two such meetings were organized on Tuesday - one in Hilika TE and another in Samdang TE. In Hilika, MHM Project Co-ordinator Bhaktimala Chaudhary, Pranch Chaliha, Jonmoni Gorai, Tankeswar Nayak of NGO Prabhat and Child Survival Co-ordinator of ABITA UNICEF, Bitul Phukan spoke on nutrition. Later the members of Kishori Club staged a drama which mainly focused on precautions to be taken at the time of menstruation. On the other hand, the meeting organized by ASHA and Anganwadi workers with the help of the tea garden management at Samdang TE was addressed by Nutrition Counsellor Tinsukia Civil Hospital Nivedita Moran, AWW Supervisor Hridaya Kakati Moran, CDPO Hapjan Anjumoni Hazarika, BPM Hapjan Mausham Bora, manager Mridul Hazarika and Subarna Patnaik of ABITA UNICEF. Towards the end of the meeting, sanitary napkins were distributed amongst the teenager girls.
