Awareness on plastic pollution

Dibrugarh, June 8: The Assamese department of DHSK Commerce College celebrated the World Environment Day with this year’s motto of creating awareness regarding a plastic free future, as declared by UNO, jointly with the Dibrugarh Zila Sangbadik Suraksha Mancha, a journalists’ body at the college library auditorium recently.

The programme, chaired by Dr KM Bhagawati, principal of the college was attended by Sangeeta Baruah, litterateur and Deputy Inspector of Schools, Dibrugarh and Udayan Gogoi, Secretary, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad among others. Dr KM Bhagawati, in his speech, lauded the efforts of the journalists’ body as well as the Assamese department of the institution for creating awareness among masses, particularly among the new generation regarding creation of a plastic free environment.

Baruah urged the audience, comprising of students, teachers as well as journalists and representatives of different organizations to come forward to create awareness about plastic pollution in the true sense of the term and not just for a gimmick or with a mindset to create record. Udayan Gogoi, youth leader, echoed the same tune and reminded the duties of every human being towards protecting mother nature from different kinds of pollution. Nobin Baruah, a nature lover was also conferred the Prakriti Bandhu (Friend of Nature) title by the Dibrugarh Zila Sangbadik Suraksha Mancha at the event. The NSS unit of the college also organized a cleanliness drive in the college campus on the occasion.
