Awareness programme against mob violence, lynching held at Sarupathar

SARUPATHAR, Oct 2: The administration and police of Dhansiri subdivision recently held an awareness programme at Sarupathar to curb mob violence, lynching and superstition sparked by rumours mainly through social media. Although the home department and the State Police have already issued a set of guidelines to the district Superintendent of Police (SP) about the court’s directions, which include taking action against those who indulge in rumour and hate mongering on social media, the issue of publicizing the legal consequence to create deterrence has to be complied with.

Dr Siddhaswar Borah, Principal of Sarupathar Collage, Anirban Sharma, SDPO, JavadArman, Circle Officer, PranjitKumar Deb, Border Magistrate, Sonashree Brahma, Election Officer of Dhansiri subdivision, and other dignitaries were present at the programme. All the speakers urged people to remain alert and to inform the nearby police station or gaonburah about any incident of mob violence and lynching.
