Awareness programme on cancer conducted in tea garden areas of Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: AInA Welfare Foundation and Assam Chah Mazdoor Shangha (ACMS), in association with Assam Cancer Care Foundation organised an awareness programme on the 'Use of tobacco and its relation with cancer at ACMS District headquarters. Sanjit Tanti, ACMS district secretary lead the meeting in the presence of senior dignitaries, district president of women committee- Gayatri Nayak, secretary Puneswari Karmakar, ACMS branch unit president Jagadish Das.

Dr. Ankita Ghosh, Dentist, of Lakhimpur Cancer Centre delivered speech on cancer and its symptoms. She focused on cancer and health. "From a cross sectional study, it is found that people from tea industry in Assam have high access to tobacco and alcohol. People suffering from cancer must visit Lakhimpur Cancer Centre for the best treatment. With the help of available facilities one can save one's life, if the treatment is started at the initial stage of the disease at low cost," Dr. Ghosh said.

District Health Manager, Community Outreach Programme of Assam Cancer Care Foundation, Sanjeev Kumar Baitha briefed about the advanced lab services in the Cancer Care Centre, along with other best services such as Chemotherapy, Radiation Oncology, CT scan, MRI, Mammography, Cancer Screening, lab investigations etc. "Any non-cancer patients who are in need of diagnostic services can have their test done in Lakhimpur Cancer Centre only," Sanjeev Kumar Baitha added.

AInA Welfare Foundation Chief Executive Director, Krishna Pratim Bordoloi said that the best services regarding ambulance facility, any information regarding cancer, whom to contact first, would be provided to the needy for the treatment. The foundation has a plan to organize cancer screening camp in all the tea gardens of Lakhimpur. AInA Welfare Foundation have been working from last 3 years for the betterment of socio economic status of the tea tribe community and it mainly focuses on health, education & livelihood sector.
