TEZPUR: A day-long awareness programme on natural farming was organized in KVK, Sonitpur campus. Natural farming is a chemical-free traditional farming method which is considered as an agroecology-based diversified farming system which integrates crops, trees and livestock with functional biodiversity. In India, Natural farming is promoted as Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati Programme (BPKP) under centrally sponsored scheme- Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY). In the programme, scientists from various disciplines of KVK Sonitpur interacted with the farmers and delivered lectures on natural resource based technologies to increase farm yield and improvement of soil health.

Various components of natural farming that included plant based insecticide, use of farm yard manure, vermicompost, pitcher drip irrigation which uses earthen pots to irrigate fruit trees, were discussed. The programme was attended by more than 30 villagers from Napam and other nearby villages of Sonitpur district.
