LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of the Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) staged strong protest against Lakhimpur Forest Division condemning its 'shameless failure' with regard to checking the aggression from across the border on the land of Assam belonging to Ranga Reserve Forest.

Notably, a road has been constructed by the neighbouring State of Arunachal Pradesh allegedly encroaching upon the land of Assam belonging to the said reserve forest adding a new dimension to the illegal aggression of the neighbouring State. In this regard, a detailed report was published in the March 20 issue of The Sentinel after this correspondent had made a spot survey of the issue by visiting the encroached area of the native State.

At present, the State of Arunachal Pradesh has been constructing the road through the Bell Bosti under Ranga Reserve Forest of Lakhimpur to connect its two places named Gumtu and Kimin by applying its all forces and spirits.

Despite such circumstances, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Lakhimpur Jadab Chandra Nath has neither taken any step to check the growing activities of the neighbouring State with regard to encroaching upon the land belonging to the reserve forest nor paid any attention to resolve the burning issue. In this regard, the district administration has also not initiated any step to prevent the aggression of Arunachal Pradesh.

Under such circumstances, the activists of the Lakhimpur AYM burnt the effigy of the DFO at Bell Bosti demanding for his immediate step to check the encroachment made by the State of Arunachal Pradesh. The protesters issued threat to intensify their stir unless the issue was handled immediately. While demonstrating the protest programme, the protesters rocked the environment by shouting various slogans in support of their demand and against the failure of the Forest Department in connection with the issue.
