SIVASAGAR: To commemorate the 75th anniversary of India's Independence, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was organized on Thursday in Sivasagar under the aegis of Sivasagar and Thowra and Nazira and Amguri Territorial PWD Road Division.

The Amrit Mahotsav has been being organized in the district from July 12 under the direction of the National Rural Infrastructure Development Organization. In line with the concluding event, a district-level discussion titled 'The Role of the Prime Minister's Rural Road Scheme (PMGSY) in Rural Development' was organized on Thursday at Yuva Dol. The programme was started with the lighting of lamps by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Bishnu Kamal Bora.

The discussion was attended by Prakash Pegu, Executive Engineer, Nazira and Amguri Territorial PWD Road Division, Bibhuti Ranjan Sarma, Executive Engineer of Sivasagar and Thowra Territorial PWD Road Division and Khagen Pegu, Superintending Engineer (C), Jorhat NEC Circle, Jorhat.

It is formally announced in the programme that a total of 910 km rural roads and 43 bridges have been constructed by the department so far in the district. As part of the event, the department also undertook a plantation drive along the rural roads in different parts of the district.
