BOKO: A two-year-old baby elephant's body was recovered in Doreng forest reserve under West Kamrup divisional forest at Bakrapara village under Boko LAC in Kamrup district on Sunday.
Villagers spotted the body of the baby elephant in a paddy field on Sunday morning. On Saturday night, a herd of six elephants had entered Bakrapara village and damaged two houses of Ajit Rabha. After that on Sunday morning, villagers spotted the baby elephant's body.
After getting information, Assam Forest Department's Bondapara range staff and a Boko Police team reached the spot. A veterinary doctor was called to conduct the post-mortem. Animesh Kalita, Ranger, Bondapara Forest range, said that they were investigating the matter. On Saturday a herd of elephants entered Bakrapara village but with the help of local public, the forest staff pushed back the herd into the forest, he said. On Sunday morning he was informed by the local villagers about the baby elephant. Ranger Kalita also added that after the post-mortem report the cause of death would be ascertained. Later, villagers paid tribute to the baby elephant.
