DIBRUGARH: Three experts from Singapore-based firm M/s Alert Disaster Control along with the OIL team reached Baghjan Gas Well Blowout site on Monday afternoon and started their well-control operation.

Earlier, the three-member foreign expert team reached Duliajan in the wee hours of June 8 and after preliminary discussion and debriefing session with the OIL's RCE and representatives of OIL about the progress in the well-control operation, the team left for Baghjan.

The foreign experts complimented OIL for all the preparatory works carried out so far and stated that they were confident that they would successfully control the well with the support of OIL at the earliest, garnering on their experience of handling over a thousand blowouts in around 135 countries all over the world under different conditions. They emphasized that the safety of the local people of the area and the technical team working at the well site would be their prime concern while carrying out the operation.

Meanwhile, both vertical and horizontal lift mechanism of the hydraulically driven mechanical transporter to be used for well control operation has been completed and tested. The final assembling process and composite arrangements of killing the well are in progress, besides clearing the site operation and arrangements for creating water umbrella for well control operation. OIL's update on blowout operation also revealed that environmental impact assessment study and bio-remediation process was in progress. OIL, meanwhile, has also engaged M/s TERI in order to evaluate the effect of the blowout on the environment and its recovery, if any.
