Bajrang Dal warns Hindus: "Hindus who celebrates Christmas will be beaten"

Silchar: In a very controversial statement, a leader from Bajrang Dal in Assam said that any Hindu, who will visit the church on the Christmas eve will be 'beaten.' The Hindus of Assam, who love to celebrate Christmas, might have to cancel their plans this year.

The leader, Mithun Nath gave this 'warning' while addressing a meeting in Silchar, Assam.

The youth wing of Vishva Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal is a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) family of organisations. Their ideology is based on Hindutva.

Nath is the General Secretary of the district unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. While giving his speech, Nath stated that he was outraged by the closing down of the alleged Vivekananda Centre (part of the Ramakrishna Mission) in Shillong, Meghalaya, which is a Christian dominated area. As a result of that, he does not want any Hindu to celebrate any festivals of the Christians.

Warning the Hindus, Nath said, "The Hindus who visit churches will be beaten because I criticise those Hindus who will go and have fun at a Christian event (Christmas) after they shut down our places of worship."

He further added, "No Hindu will go to church on Christmas this year. We will make sure of it,"

The right-wing leader said, "If we do so (assault Hindus) I know the headlines in newspapers the next day – "Gunda Dal" has vandalised Oriental school...but that is not our priority. We will not allow Hindus in programmes during Christmas when they are locking gates of temples in Shillong."

Nath has claimed that the Khasi Student Union (KSU) has shut down a Hindu temple in Meghalaya.

However, the concerned authorities have dismissed the claim and said that none of the temples of Ramakrishna Mission were shut down.
