Ban on transport, slaughtering and selling of pigs in Biswanath Chariali

Biswanath Chariali: In pursuance of order no. VFV218/2020/2-A dated April 26 received from the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department in connection with prevention of spread of classical swine fever in pork, pig population and to take all precautionary measures to stop the virus from spreading in the other areas of Biswanath district, Dhruba Jyoti Das, District Magistrate of Biswanath, has issued prohibitory order on some activities throughout the district with immediate effect.

The order imposed ban on transportation of pigs, personal carrying of pigs, slaughtering and selling of pigs. It also imposed ban on disposal of pig carcass by deep burial without adopting bio safety measures and on throwing pig carcass in rivers or in open areas and spaces. However, pig-rearers are allowed to procure feed for their own farm from the authorized dealers and shops. In case of any sign of high fever or any abnormal mortality in pigs, it should be immediately brought to the notice of local veterinarians or local administration. Strict bio security measures including routine disinfection of the farms must be done by the department concerned, the order said. Any violation of this order is punishable U/S 188 of IPC.
