Barpeta Siromoni awardee Arjun Ch Das passes away at GMCH

BARPETA: Barpeta Siromoni awardee, veteran educationist, social worker, former Principal of Barpeta Madhab Choudhury College and former president of Barpeta Sahitya Sabha, Arjun Ch Das breathed his last on Saturday evening at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) COVID Care Unit.

He was admitted at Barpeta's Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (FAAMCH) initially but later shifted to GMCH. His plasma therapy was done on Friday. But his health deteriorated and on Saturday evening he breathed his last. The people of Barpeta have mourned his demise.

Arjun Ch Das was born on December 30, 1934. He completed his primary education at Town Boys' MV School and high school in Barpeta Vidyapith. He passed matriculation in 1953 in first division. From Cotton College passed his Intermediate in 1955 and in 1957 he completed his BA degree in Botany and MA from Gauhati University in 1961. He joined Barpeta Government HS School and in 1962, he joined as professor in MC College. From 1991-1996 he remained as the Principal of MC College. In 1996, he retired from service.

Even after retirement he worked in various colleges as Principal. He was associated with Asom Vigyan Sammittee, Sankar Madhab Degree College, Barpeta Law College, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Barpeta. He received many honours and was conferred the Barpeta Siromoni Award on August 28, 2020.
