Batadrava Violence: Child Care Unit Reportedly Rescues 6 Children of Arrested Parents

Guwahati: At least six children of the parents who were apprehended in connection with the attack on Batadrava Police station have been rescued by a childcare unit on Tuesday.

According to reports, these children were finding it difficult to survive after their parents were nabbed by police for their alleged involvement in the said attack.

Ever since the district administration along with Assam Police demolished their homes, these children were forced to roam helpless seeking shelter to protect them.

Taking the cognizance of the matter when it came in front of the Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, he said this is totally against the ethos of Assam Police.

Taking to the social media platforms, Mahanta said, ''We came to know about 6 young children of the perpetrators of Batadraba Police Station burning case, how despite being innocent or minor, they were left to fend for themselves once their parents were arrested.''

''This goes against the ethos of Assam Police, I had personally spoken to district administration officials to ensure that these children were placed under safe and proper accommodation in government shelter homes. They will be safe and well looked after,'' he added.

Meanwhile, coming to the attack, the six prime accused arrested in this connection with the attack on Batadrava police station have been sent to four-day police custody.

Earlier, the police had detained as many as 22 people and arrested six persons including two women for setting the police station on fire and destroying important case files.

They were sent to police custody after police produced them in court on Monday.

The arrested persons were identified as Mujibur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam, Anwar Hussain, Rashida Khatun, Sabina Khatun (minor), and Anwar Hussain.

On Saturday, a violent and rowdy crowd set ablaze at the Batadrava police station in the Nagaon district of Assam and physically assaulted the cops.

The assault came after a person named Safiqul Islam, who was allegedly picked up by police, reportedly died while being in custody at Batadrava police station.

A furious mob of men and women were seen storming the Batadrava police station in the visuals which surfaced online. The angry mob took the law into their own hands when they assaulted a couple of policemen who were on duty and set the police station on fire.
